Please read Hebrews 11…
Two men were walking along a crowded and very noisy city pavement. Suddenly, one of the men remarked: “Listen to the lovely sound of that bird.” The other man didn’t hear the sound and asked, “How can you hear the sound of a bird above the roar of the traffic and the sounds of the city?”
The first man, a zoologist, had trained himself to hear the sounds of nature. He didn’t explain to his friend how he could hear such sounds but instead reached into his pocket, pulled out a large coin, dropped it onto the pavement and watched as a dozen people began to look for the coin as they heard it clanking amid the sounds of the city. He turned to his friend and said, “We hear… what we listen for.”
Hebrews chapter 11 reminds us that “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”.
Prayer: Lord, help me to listen for your sometimes soft voice amongst the clamour and noise of my daily life and help me to see by faith (in the same sense as those listed in Hebrews 11) that heavenly city that is prepared for all believers (Heb. 11:16) and be assured of the fact that Your unfailing love surrounds all those who trust in You (Psalm 32:10).
