September 2016

Hello! I’m Phil. It’s a pleasure to be able to formally introduce myself to you, although I am grateful to have already met many of you over the last six years. Abby and I moved to Offerton in August 2010 to be part of the team that planted Glo Church along with Gareth, Lizzy and Liz Tripp. Throughout that time, we at Glo have always been so incredibly thankful for our partnership with All Saints’, and even more so in recent months as Abby and I have stepped into new responsibility at Glo. Your prayers, words of encouragement and sacrificial support are such a blessing to us. You have done an amazing job at ‘mothering’ us. Thank you.

Abby and I have been married since May 2010. We have two boys, Caleb (3) and Josiah (6months). We both grew up in West Yorkshire, where people have short arms and long pockets (but know how to do proper fish and chips). We actually went to the same school but didn’t properly meet until after our university years. Since the age of 10 I have been a season ticket holder at Huddersfield Town, who currently sit at the top of the EFL Championship!* I like it so much I actually have two season tickets – let me know if you’d like to come along.

What else? I’m a Vicar’s Kid (one of four), Civil Engineering graduate, sports fan, runner, musician, aeropress evangelist, competitive board-games player, pioneer, occasional artist, bioenergetics type 5&3 and Myers Briggs ENTP. You got me?

Most importantly I am absolutely fascinated by this guy Jesus. Isn’t He just ridiculous and incredible? I made a decision early on in life that I wanted to centre my life around Him. The latest part of that journey resulted in me being ordained in July as your curate, with specific responsibility for Glo. I’m a passionate believer in the priesthood of all believers, that God calls us all to be priests in the places of work, rest and play that he has sent us to. It just so happens that He’s shaped me to be a priest who leads a church. My passion for Glo is to see more people come to know Jesus, to recognise their own priestly calling and to live a life of service to Him.

Abby and I are so excited to be leading Glo Church, taking on the baton from Gareth and Lizzy who have been just the most incredible leaders and friends over the last 6 years.

We long to see Offerton transformed by the love of God, for the people to be formed into His likeness and for the communities to be redeemed and restored as strongholds for God’s good kingdom. We’re looking forward to sharing that journey with you all! See you soon!

Phil Harris – Glo Church Leader
