“So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope that is set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” – Hebrews 6:17-20

Waiting is not easy, as Abraham discovered, but despite the seemingly impossible circumstances, his faith held, even though there was a big ‘wobble’ ( see Genesis Ch 16). When God made the promises he even swore by his own self that he would keep them!

As well as trusting God that he will fulfil his promises in our individual circumstances, we have a secure hope, ‘a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul’. In times of doubt, uncertainty and buffeting we can totally rely on Jesus as our anchor, who has entered into the inner ‘holy of holies’ behind the curtain in the temple. ‘Our hope is fixed there where Jesus is’ FF Bruce. Jesus is in the presence of God the Father and we are attached to him by a very strong, secure cable. Storms may come and go but we have an anchor and the promises of our Loving Heavenly Father.
