With the announcement this week from the government and the Church of England I wanted to update you about what we are doing in the parish of All Saints’ Marple to cope with the outbreak of the Corona Virus. This might be the first of a few emails as we try to keep up to date with each other during this time.
The Church of England announced on Tuesday morning that all public services are to be suspended until further notice. This means that there will be no more Sunday or midweek services at All Saints’, St Paul’s and GLO.
The government have also announced that non essential social gatherings should stop and so we are stopping all groups which include CONNECT, Kids and toddler groups, Life Groups, coffee mornings and lunch groups. We will however try to keep the food bank running out of the CONNECT foyer on Saturday mornings in our CONNECT building on Queen’s Street in Marple.
For the time being this means that we need to radically reconsider how we are church together and how we can support each other and our communities during this unprecedented time.
As we cannot gather in one place as church for this Sunday, we will livestream a worship service online. We would love it if you joined us via FACEBOOK live at 10.15am. You can watch on a desktop, tablet or via your smart phone with or without a Facebook account by clicking on this link: https://www.facebook.com/pg/allsaintsmarple/videos from 10.10am on Sunday 22nd. If you login too early you may have to refresh the page to join us.
To support each other and our community we have set up two emails that we would love you to use as regularly as you need.
email@example.com can be used in two ways.
1. If you need any practical help such as picking up shopping, posting mail, urgent supplies or a friendly phone call then please email us at the above address. Our usual CONNECT-Help services (click for more info) are also available on this email address.
2. We would love you to email us if you can volunteer in any of the above ways to help those in need. Just email with the title, ‘HELP VOLUNTEER’ and email your name and ideally a mobile number and we will add you to the list of help volunteers. Please also indicate the ways in which you can help.
firstname.lastname@example.org can also be used in two ways.
1. If you have any prayer needs that you would like us as church to pray for then please email.
2. If you are happy to pray for others, can you email with the title PRAYER VOLUNTEER and email your name and ideally a mobile number and we will add you to the list of prayer volunteers.
Finally, I would like to encourage you with some verses from Jeremiah 17:7-8
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.”
It is in this hope that we pray that the Lord blesses and keeps us during this difficult time.
Much love and prayers,
Daniel and Lesley.
